Benefits Nearly As Attractive As Salary

Results of a recent Robert Half Finance & Accounting survey suggest that a good benefits and insurance package is nearly as attractive to prospective accountants as a high salary.

Half, a temporary staffing agency, asked corporate CFOs which incentives were most effective in attracting top accounting candidates. And while 37 percent of respondents said "higher salaries than competitors" was most important, a full 33 percent said the company's benefits and insurance package was most important.

When Half asked the same question in 2003, 46 percent of respondents said a high salary was most important and only 2 percent said the company's benefits and insurance was most important. In 2003, 33 percent said the ability to telecommute, or a flexible schedule, was most important. Only 13 percent gave that response this year.
