Big-Ticket Item Orders Fall

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, new orders for manufactured durable goods decreased in October by 0.4 percent to $214.5 billion.

This was the third consecutive monthly decrease and followed a 1.4 percent September decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.7 percent. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 0.9 percent.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods were up 0.6 percent in October following two consecutive monthly decreases. The October increase followed a 1.7 percent September decrease.
