Blackstone River Project Gets EPA Grant

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $35,000 grant to the Massachusetts Audubon Society to improve water quality in the Blackstone River.

The Worcester-based Blackstone River Coalition will use the funds for a water quality monitoring program and for education efforts in Worcester and Woonsocket and Pawtucket, R.I. The project is designed to reduce the effects of storm water and encourage low-impact development practices.
The project aims to make the Blackstone fishable and swimable by 2015.

The EPA also gave a $35,000 grant to The Medical Foundation in Boston for efforts to address environmental triggers of asthma.
