Action-Packed Park In Acton


Over the last 90 days, Boston-based commercial real estate firm Richards Barry Joyce & Partners has represented KBS Realty Advisors in 11 new leases, expansions and renewals at Nagog Park in Acton. The leases total 50,000 square feet and were signed with a mix of established and early-stage companies. RBJ said the tenant mix illustrates the appeal of both Nagog Park and Greater Boston's northern submarkets.

EPA Seeks Payment From Clinton Superfund Site Owner


The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has placed a Superfund lien on a 4-acre site in Clinton in an attempt to recoup $269,000 in pollution cleanup costs from property owner Patrick A. Parker. The 40-48 Rigby Street site has borne the effects of pollution since the late 1800s, according to the EPA, and has been home to a landfill for industrial waste, a metal galvanizing factory and a plastics molding facility that was destroyed by fire.

Framingham

Framingham Firm Secures Patents


The rapid blood test developed by Framingham-based StatSure Diagnostic Systems Inc. has been granted international patents in Japan and India.
The technology is already protected by a U.S. patent, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is being sold in the U.S. The company's "barrel" technology can test a tiny drop of blood for HIV and certain other infectious diseases in minutes.

TJX Settles With Visa For $40M


The TJX Cos. of Framingham said it had reached a $40.9 million settlement with Visa USA Inc. and Visa Inc. for payments to those affected by last winter's TJ Maxx credit card breach. In order for the settlement to go into effect, 80 percent of Visa issuers have to accept the payment plan set out in the settlement by Dec. 19. Once agreed upon, TJX will pay Visa issuers Dec. 27, and those issuers agree not to pursue litigation related to the breach against TJX.

Biotech Firm Expands In Gardner


Gardner-based New England Peptide LLC has opened a 1,000-square-foot addition to its production facility. The expansion is part of NEP's effort to enter the worldwide market for clinical and commercial-grade peptides. The company said demand for its custom peptides and antibodies has been on the rise. NEP's products have applications in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Littleton

Protecting Data From Afar


Littleton-based Marathon Technologies Corp. said it had launched new software that could instantaneously store and secure data over great distances. Marathon calls the system everRun CDP, and says it reduces or eliminates downtime due to system failures. The system captures and replicates data across any distance in real-time, the company said.

Marlborough

New York firm acquires assets from Marlborough firm


Advanced Viral Research Corp., a New York-based biopharmaceutical company, recently acquired assets originally owned by Marlborough-based Cetek Corp. The sale includes the rights to two new anti-cancer compounds. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. As part of the deal, three Cetek executives have joined ADVR: Vincent Gullo, Dallas Hughes and Yuriy Dunayevskiy.

Westborough

National Grid Moving To Waltham


National Grid said it will consolidate its New England operations at new space in Waltham. The utility plans to move 1,700 of its employees to the yet-to-built Waltham site. The utility's current headquarters are in Westborough. The new building will total 270,000 square feet. National Grid signed a 20-year lease on the space. The space is expected to be ready in mid-2009.

West Boylston

West Boylston Manufacturing Property Sold, Leased


A 53,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 70 Hartwell St. in West Boylston has been sold to D & S Realty Inc. for $2.6 million.D & S Realty is a subsidiary of West Boylston's Corporate Environmental Advisors, according to Kelleher & Sadowsky Associates Inc., which represented the buyer and the seller. Space in the building has been leased to Columbia Tech and DCI Engineering, both Worcester-based subsidiaries of Coghlin Companies Inc. of Worcester. DCI has already moved into the new space from its former home at 67 Millbrook St. in Worcester, the company said.

Hockey Convention Coming To Worcester


The American Hockey League will bring its 2009 All-Star Classic to Worcester in an event league and city officials say will draw thousands of fans to local hotels, restaurants and bars. The two-day All-Star Classic will include the league's all-star game, a skills competition and community events where fans will be able to mingle with players. The event's dates have not yet been set, but it will take place around the middle of the hockey season, in late January or early February, league officials said.

EDA Acknowledges Gateway Park


Cleaning up neglected industrial property is no easy task, and when the result is Gateway Park, the federal government takes notice by presenting awards with really long names. Sandy K. Baruah, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development was on hand at Gateway to present Gateway Park LLC with the U.S. Economic Development Administration's "excellence in economic development award for urban or suburban economic development." Gateway Park is being developed by the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the Worcester Business Development Corp. on the site of a former metal products factory complex.
