Chairs, desks and cabinets sold by a local office furniture supplier will be packed up and shipped off not once, but twice.
Workplace Resource Ltd., currently located at 100 Grove St., will be relocating to 162 Prescott St. in Worcester after renovations are completed.
Workplace Resource purchased the 6,000-square-foot space from auction and will convert the building to a downstairs warehouse and second floor office space.
"Real estate is cheap in Worcester," said Workplace Resource owner Claudia Russo. "It's inexpensive to do business in Worcester because we're sitting in the middle of the state."
The furniture dealer that has been in operation since 2000 works business-to-business with companies that are mainly based in Massachusetts.
"We deal mostly with universities and corporate clients through networking with architects and designers," said Russo. "The schools in Worcester have been great to local businesses including ours. We're a small company but we try to do our best in this competitive industry."
Russo hopes to vacate the rented Grove Street location by summer, however she said the renovations have been a lot work.
"When we first saw it, it was just a shell," she said. "We put the second floor on and have to redo the façade. I don't want to even think about the cost."
The company plans on continuing to provide samples, tours and office equipment.
"Even though things are costing us more than we thought, Prescott Street is a great neighborhood," said Russo. "We love the building, love the landlord, the neighbors are great."
