Clark To Move Satellite Program To Southborough

Clark University is moving its Graduate School of Management satellite campus from Framingham just a few miles down Route 9 to Southborough.

With the lease of its Framingham location expiring at the end of the year, college officials wanted a location with better highway access and new, state-of-the art classrooms.

"We really wanted a showcase facility," said Andrea Aiello, assistant dean of the management school, which has its main campus in Worcester.

Ease On Down
The new Southborough location boasts 8,400 square feet of space and is located on Route 9 at 333 Turnpike Rd. It will include four classrooms, a conference room that can hold up to about 70 people and an Internet café and meeting area for students.

It is less than a mile from Interstate 495 and is about 4 miles from the satellite campus's current location at 1671 Worcester Rd. in Framingham. The college hopes to begin offering classes at the new site in January.

The new space is slightly smaller than the Framingham location, but the GSOM used to share that space with Clark's continuing education program, which will be moving to the main Worcester campus in January.

The space is less expensive because it is smaller, but finances were not a driving factor in the decision to relocate, according to Aiello. College officials signed a five-year lease with Southborough Equity Partners LLC, the owners of the building, and the managing agent, KS Partners LLC, which has offices in Woburn.

The GSOM's Framingham satellite is also in the same building as the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce.

Ted Welte, president of the chamber, said he's disappointed to see the college announce plans to leave the building, but understands their desire for closer highway access and updated classroom facilities.

"Because they're a night school, it's worked out great for us to have them here," he said. The chamber often has events in the GSOM's space.

The college has seen increased enrollment at the center the past few years. In the fall of 2007 there were 90 students taking classes and this year there are 124. That makes up about a quarter of the graduate school's total student enrollment. The rest of the GSOM students attend classes at Clark's Worcester Campus.

The center offers courses in its MBA program as well as its master's of science in finance program at the satellite campus.

The center offers about 15 courses but Aiello said she hopes to expand the number of students and programs with the new Southborough satellite.
