The Connecticut Light and Power Co. today filed formal proposals with the state Department of Public Utility Control to construct "peaking" generation plants in Waterbury and Lebanon. In February, the company filed project qualification plans.
CL&P's filing includes plans for a 200 megawatt plant on CL&P-owned land adjacent to its Card Street substation in Lebanon and a 65 megawatt plant on land next to the Yankee Gas Eagle Street work center in Waterbury.
This marks the first time CL&P has submitted plans for regulated generation since the electric utility restructuring act of 1998 required utilities to divest all generating units. The Connecticut General Assembly last year approved comprehensive energy legislation that allowed utilities to make proposals for a specific type of regulated peaking generation plant.
A final decision on all peaking proposals is anticipated by the DPUC in June.
