Come again some other day

The bad weather didn't just keep shoppers from buying peanut butter in 16-lb. tubs. Framingham-based TJX Cos. blamed the weather for an April same-store sales slump of 1 percent.

The results "were below our expectations," said Carol Meyrowitz, the company's president and CEO.

But she said that once the weather warmed in the second half of the month, sales accelerated, and noted that same-store sales for March and April combined were up 3 percent over last year.

The company reported total April sales of $1.28 billion, up 2 percent from the same period a year ago.

TJX operates retail stores such as TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Bob's Stores, Home Goods and others.
