A new corporation has formed in an effort to bolster Catholic elementary school education in north Worcester County. The St. Paul Catholic School Consortium is a separate 501c3 corporation, led by an eighteen member board of local education, religious, business, and community leaders.
Should a parochial school in Fitchburg, Gardner or Leominster decide to enter the consortium, day-to-day management and financial responsibilities will transfer from the parish to the corporation. Administrative management will likewise transfer from the pastor of the parish to the executive director of the consortium. The pastor would transition from a role of management to one of pastoral leadership, and the principal would still control the school itself.
The Consortium has secured two grants through the Catholic Schools Office, including a $40,000 contribution from the Lynch Foundation, and a $26,358 grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Education. The former will go towards an initial advancement and planning study conducted by Allen and Racine Associates of Sterling, while the latter provides for a science and math enrichment program run by the Consortium and held at Fitchburg State College.
Several local business leaders will join the board of directors, including Marcus Moran, president of W.E. Aubuchon, Inc. and Candace Race, senior vice president with Fidelity Investments.
