Courant loses D.C. bureau stalwart

David Lightman, who has served as Washington bureau chief for the Hartford Courant since 1981, is leaving the paper to join the McClatchy newspaper chain's national reporting staff. The Tribune Co., owner of the Courant, last year combined the D.C. reporting staffs of several of its newspapers. Lightman's departure comes later this month. McClatchy is the third largest newspaper chain in the U.S.
