Double-Take Buys Canadian Co.

Double-Take Software Inc. of Southborough has acquired emBoot Inc. of Ontario, Canada for $9.6 million.

EmBoot, which has five employees, develops technology to help move workloads among servers, desktops and virtual machines. Double-Take said the acquisition follows its development and acquisition of other data protection and recovery technologies.

Double-Take also announced its second-quarter results. The company had profits of $2.7 million on revenues of $24.4 million. That's down from the same period last year, when it made $7.5 million in profit on revenues of $20 million.

The company's sales and marketing expenses for Q1 2008 rose to $8.9 million from $6.8 million in Q1 2007. Research and development costs rose to $4.1 million from $2.8 million.

Double-Take also said it has appointed Deborah Besemer to its board of directors. Besemer previously served as president and CEO of BrassRing LLC of Waltham and executive vice president of worldwide field operations at Lotus Development in Westford.
