Southbridge Savings To Close Two Branches

Southbridge Savings Bank plans to close two branches that fall outside its Central Massachusetts core market.

The bank announced it is seeking regulatory approval to close locations at the Amherst and West Springfield Big Y Supermarket branches. It said the two in-store branches, which opened in 2002, have not met its growth projections for the past five years.

Southbridge Savings said it wants to focus more on its core market. The bank plans to relocate its Webster branch to a larger, more visible facility. It also recently opened a branch in North Oxford.

The bank also has full-service locations in Charlton, Holden, Palmer, Southbridge, Spencer, Sturbridge and Worcester.
