EDA Acknowledges Gateway Park

Cleaning up neglected industrial property is no easy task, and when the result is Gateway Park, the federal government takes notice by presenting awards with really long names.

This afternoon, Sandy K. Baruah, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development will be on hand at Gateway to present Gateway Park LLC with the U.S. Economic Development Administration's "excellence in economic development award for urban or suburban economic development."

Gateway Park is being developed by the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the Worcester Business Development Corp. on the site of a former metal products factory complex.

The presentation is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. at WPI's life sciences and bioengineering center at 60 Prescott St. Baruah will be joined by U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern.

According to the EDA, the award goes to organizations that demonstrate "sound, research-based, market driven economic development."
