Hopkinton-based data storage giant EMC Corp. has hired Pat Gelsinger away from Intel Corp.
Gelsinger will be president and COO of EMC Information Infrastructure Products. He was most recently senior vice president and co-general manager of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group, the company's largest unit.
In an EMC release, Gelsinger said that while the technology industry has undergone "almost incomprehensible change" in the last 30 years, EMC is "well positioned to play a pivotal role in the IT industry for decades to come."
Gelsinger will report directly to Joe Tucci, EMC's chairman and CEO.
The company also announced that it had promoted Howard Elias to president and COO of EMC Information Infrastructure and Cloud Services.
