EMC stays on top

Hopkinton-based EMC Corp. stayed on top of the external disk storage systems market with 21.2 percent of total market share in the first quarter of 2007, according to the IDC worldwide quarterly disk storage systems tracker.
IDC, based in Framingham, is a provider of market intelligence, advisory services and events for the IT, telecom and consumer technology markets.
EMC beat out competition from Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Dell and Hitachi to maintain its lead in the market segment, the IDC report said.
EMC took in $912 million in total revenue in the first quarter, up .1 percent from $911 million in the first quarter of last year.
