External Disk Storage Systems Post Double-Digit Growth

For the sixth consecutive quarter, worldwide external disk storage systems manufacturers posted double-digit revenue growth, according to Framingham-based IDC.

Revenues in the third quarter grew 10.8 percent year-over-year, totaling just under $5.8 billion. Meanwhile, the overall external disk storage market grew 8.5 percent to $7.6 billion. Total disk storage systems capacity grew 30.7 percent from the same quarter a year ago.

Hopkinton-based EMC Corp. maintained its lead in the market, with 28.6 percent revenue share, followed by IBM and NetApp. EMC also continued to lead the worldwide networked disk storage market, with 31.3 percent of revenue share.
