First-Time Jobless Claims Hit 586K

In the week ending Dec. 20, 586,000 Americans filed claims for unemployment insurance coverage for the first time, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
That's an increase of 30,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 556,000 and a 26-year high for weekly first-time claims.
The 4-week moving average was 558,000, an increase of 13,750 from the previous week.
