Foreclosure data offers more of the same

For the 18th month in a row, petitions to foreclose and auction announcements in Massachusetts rose in July, according to numbers released today by the Warren Group , publishers of Banker & Tradesman.

In July, 2,185 petitions to foreclose were filed in Massachusetts Land Court, up 66.5 percent compared to the 1,312 petitions filed in July of 2006. Year-to-date, 15,130 petitions have been filed, up from 9,089 filed at the same time last year, another increase of 66.5 percent.

Auction announcements rose 130 percent to 1,128 in July. Year to date, auction announcements are up 165 percent, from 3,287 at this point in 2006 to 8,711 this year.

In Worcester County in July, petitions to foreclose were up 67.6 percent to 352, while auction announcements rang in at 204 for the month, a 79 percent increase. Year-to-date, petitions in Worcester County were up 66.5 percent to 2,308, while auction announcements stood at 1,609, a 157 percent increase, according to the report.
