The Architectural Heritage Foundation of Boston has hired Jake Sanders, former chief of staff to Worcester City Manager Edward Augustus, to oversee the redevelopment of the Worcester Memorial Auditorium as project executive, according to an announcement Thursday.

The Worcester Memorial Auditorium is a planned $94-million development project of the nearly 90-year-old building on Lincoln Street.

Sanders played an instrumental role in the development of the $160-million Polar Park baseball stadium in Worcester as a member of the negotiation and construction teams, per the release. He has also worked on designing the Worcester Regional Transit Authority headquarters and creating pathways for cannabis companies to establish themselves in Worcester.

The auditorium project will preserve the exterior of the building, as well as the interior murals and Kimball organ inside, said the release.

“This is not a project without substantial challenges, but we are confident that Jake has the requisite skillset to spearhead the effort and bring community partners together toward a common vision,” said AHF President Sean McDonnell in a statement.

Headquartered in Boston, AHF is a nonprofit developer focused on stimulating economic development through the preservation and redevelopment of historic properties.
