The public health director for Framingham, along with MCPHS University, will be honored in November for their community health work by Worcester's Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center.

Dr. Samuel Wong is Framingham's public health director today but has held similar roles in Central Massachusetts before joining the city. He's also been the director of public and community health services in Hudson, and has served on the West Boylston Board of Health and chaired the MetroWest Prevention & Wellness Partnership.

Wong is the president of the Massachusetts Health Officers Association and serves on a range of other state and regional bodies, including the Special Commission on Local & Regional Health and the Massachusetts Food Policy Council.

MCPHS University, which is based in Boston and has a growing campus in Worcester, will be recognized. Charles Monahan, the MCPHS president since 1997 and a Worcester native, will accept the award on behalf of the school.

MCPHS has nearly 1,500 students in Worcester, with academic programs including pharmacy, nursing, acupuncture and optometry.

The awards will be presented Nov. 14 at an event at Mechanics Hall.
