Gardner Home Fined $75K For Bed Sores

The office of state Attorney General Martha Coakley has fined the Wachusett Manor nursing home in Gardner $75,000 for not properly taking care of one of its residents.

The attorney general's office began an investigation into allegations of neglect in 2003. A then 44-year-old resident of the home had developed bed sores severe enough to require admission to UMass Memorial Medical Center. The home was found to have violated the state's long term care facilities regulations, as well as other state laws and regulations.

By agreeing to a settlement with the AG's office, Wachusett Manor admitted no liability, but will pay $75,000. Wachusett Manor is owned by Genesis HealthCare Corp. of Pennsylvania, which owns 20 long-term care facilities in Massachusetts.
