First Student Inc., a national school bus company, is moving its Framingham facility at 47 New York Ave., to Hayes Memorial Drive in Marlborough and Northborough, thanks to Genzyme Corp.
Genzyme bought the land for the bus depot for $1.12 million on Jan. 7 from the Marlborough Northborough Land Realty Trust, with trustees John A. Cataldo and Arturo J. Gutierrez, according to the South Middlesex County Registry of Deeds. The company struck a deal with the trust for the purchase of the land in June.
The new 24,000-square-foot terminal cost $2.7 million, according to Marlborough city records, and is nearing completion.
Henri Termeer, Genzyme's CEO, offered to buy the land to move the bus company so the biotechnology company could expand further in the Framingham Technology Park should it need more space. Genzyme is in the process of purchasing the bus company's current site.
Genzyme opened a $125 million, 180,000-square-foot science center at the Framingham Technology Park in September.
Michael Sullivan of First Student in Framingham confirmed that the Framingham bus facility is scheduled to be moved to the Marlborough location over the February school vacation.
