Gov. Could Defray Costs For Mass. Farmers

According to the Massachusetts Farm Energy Program, Bay State farmers could get state and federal government agencies to pay for as much as 75 percent of energy efficiency improvements.

The program found that many Massachusetts farmers were not aware of existing energy resources. A group of regional, state and federal agencies led by the Berkshire-Pioneer Resource Conservation and Development Area is trying to make farmers more aware of energy conservation opportunities through its web site: www.berkshirepioneerrcd.org/mfep/ .

The web site gives farmers concise, step-by-step information about energy programs, incentives and other opportunities. The group said farmers should combine utility industry conservation programs with federal energy grant programs to recoup as much as 75 percent of the cost of becoming more energy efficient.
