Hazardous Waste Fine For Littleton Co.

Littleton-based Curtis-Wright Controls Inc. has been hit with a $15,000 state Department of Environmental Protection fine for a variety of hazardous waste violations.

Curtis-Wright manufactures power system control modules for military tanks and airplanes.

According to the DEP, an inspection of the Curtis facility in December 2006 turned up hazardous waste that had been accumulating for longer than allowed by the company's permit. The company had treated small amounts of hazardous waste, and failed to comply with other hazardous waste management requirements.

The company agreed to pay $10,000 of the fine. The remaining $5,000 was suspended pending the company's development of an environmental management system for its own operations.
