Marlborough medical technology company Hologic has launched a new product offerings for its Panther diagnostics system for medical laboratories.

The system's latest updates, whose commercial availability were announced Wednesday, is now on the market in the United States and Europe. The system, called Panther, allows labs to run more tests than before, Hologic said, with new optional configurations for scaling instrumentation to meet testing demands.

Hologic began selling the Panther system in 2010 in Europe, giving labs full automation for molecular testing for areas that include women’s health, sexually transmitted infections and respiratory health. Labs can consolidate molecular testing onto a single platform.

The latest capabilities also allow lab users to let the system conduct tests autonomously for up to 13 and a half hours. Those features allow an additional 210 tests to be run in 24 hours.

Another system update to allow the multiple Panther systems to run together for more testing volume is expected to be available in the United States and Europe later this year.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article incorrectly said the Panther diagnostic system debuted in February. The system has been sold since 2010, but it has new options, which debuted in February.
