Illumina to close Wallingford plant

Biomedical tool-maker Illumina Inc. plans to close its Wallingford factory later this year and consolidate operations into its Southern California facilities, the company announced this morning. The Wallingford factory was established after the San Diego-based firm acquired CyVera Corp. in 2005. The factory was used to develop and manufacture its BeadXpress line of genetic analysis tools, which was launched last month. The factory employs about 30. Illumina did not say how many jobs would be lost from the closure, but noted it would take a $2 million charge to close the factory.
