Japan Hearts BSX Stent

Natick-based Boston Scientific announced it has received approval to market its stent system to treat coronary artery disease in Japan.

The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare approved the PROMUS stent system, allowing the medical device company to increase its presence in the Asian country. The company already sells a drug-eluting stent system in the country.

The PROMUS stent system is manufactured by Abbott and distributed by Boston Scientific.

More than 6 million of the products, along with the company’s other product, the TAXUS Stent System, have been sold internationally.
