In a report released by the Conference Board, online job ads decreased by 3 percent in November almost nationwide, with 39 out of 50 states reflecting the drop in job vacancies.
Over the year, online advertised vacancies increased by 15 percent for the nation as a whole, but November saw 119,800 fewer jobs posted online. Among other factors, this can be credited to a decrease in postings in most states, particularly in the Pacific, East South Central and New England regions, with decreases in Massachusetts hitting 13,100. Among major metropolitan areas, Boston came in second in recorded decreases with 11,200.
While California and Texas ranked 1 and 2 in ad volume, Massachusetts and Rhode Island lead the nation with nearly 5 advertised vacancies for every 100 persons in the labor force. Massachusetts was also among the top ten of states with the most ads, coming in seventh with 157,000.
In November, the jobs with the most advertised online vacancies were management, business and financial operations, followed by office and administrative support.
