Parent company of Charlton manufacturer does damage control
Karl Storz Endoskope, a German-based endoscopy equipment company with a production facility in Charlton, has gone on the offensive to quash some unusual rumors.
The company wants to make it clear that it does not have lenses for their products repaired in - of all places - Pakistan. The company posted a press release on its web site in late August refuting what it calls a "false allegation" from a competitor claiming that they do.
Responding to questions by email, the Karl Storz executive board said the original statement was made by a German competitor, but did not name the company.
"Of course we could not accept that our customers receive false information," the board said. "And of course Karl Storz sees its responsibility to inform customers about false sales arguments which are used to harm Karl Storz's successful sales strategy."
Members of the company's U.S. staff in Charlton say they have heard nothing about the allegation. Managers at the Charlton location said they were unaware of it, and Gregg Nighswonger, California-based senior copywriter for the company, said the release was translated from a German version and apparently referred to a conflict that had not been an issue in the United States.
"We didn't even have any knowledge of it here in California," he said.
Karl Storz, which produces endoscopic equipment for human and veterinary medicine, said it repairs lenses only at its German headquarters, a production center in Switzerland and the Charlton location.
"Karl Storz has never and still today does not base its production and repair centres in countries with the lowest wages," the release says, "but rather Karl Storz locations have always and continue to be based in areas that offer the correct knowledge, experience and expertise."
The release says that the competitor has stopped making the allegation.
