Lightower inks Virginia contract

Boxborough-based Lightower Fiber Networks, a major provider of technology networking services, said it has been named an authorized vendor by the Commonwealth of Virginia for data network services.

The contract enables the company to offer a range of all-fiber and high performance Internet services to public bodies, government agencies, nonprofits, schools and libraries throughout Virginia. The contract was awarded through a formal request-for-proposal process.

Two years ago, Lightower announced construction of more than 1,100 miles of fiber network blanketing most of Virginia, signaling the company’s interest in doing business in the state. That project was completed in November 2014, and since then Virginia cities and towns and government agencies have had access to the company’s services.

Lightower recently completed a merger with Fibertech Networks, expanding its service area to everywhere between Boston and North Carolina, and as far west as Illinois.
