Marlborough software developer Bitstream Inc. said it lost $1.2 million in the third quarter on revenue that increased 6 percent to $5.9 million.
In the same period a year earlier, the company made a $519,000 profit on revenue of $5.6 million.
The loss was the result of acquisition costs and debt payments, the company said.
The company's operating expenses were $4.2 million compared to $2.8 million a year ago. Its operating loss was $1.1 million compared to operating income of $536,000.
Bitstream ended the quarter with $4.6 million in cash and equivalents compared to $17.9 million a year ago.
Bitstream makes software for the graphic design and mobile communications industries.
