Loop C02, a Marlborough-based startup working to convert carbon dioxide into polymers, has opened a new 3,000-square-foot research facility in the city.

The lab, located at 260 Cedar Hill St., will serve as a hub for the company’s research efforts as it works to convert carbon dioxide into degradable, high-performance polymers with use potential for a number of industries, according to a Wednesday press release announcing the opening of the space.

“Our new facility, equipped with a 16-foot-tall distillation tower and a 20-liter high-pressure autoclave, marks a significant step forward,” Loop CO2 CEO Aone Wang said in the Wednesday press release. “These capabilities will accelerate advanced polymer development and support the broader adoption of advanced coatings; debonding-on-demand adhesives for consumer electronics and EV batteries; and chemically recyclable polyurethanes for inks, packaging, and laminations, reshaping the future of the plastics industry.”

The company says its next milestone is the opening of its 300-liter scale-up facility in Marlborough, which will expand production capacity for pilot projects. The new production facility is expected to create eight to 10 new jobs.

Founded in 2022, Loop C02 originated in Worcester-based incubator Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives before announcing its move to Marlborough in August 2024
