Mass. car dealer wins EPA award

A Massachusetts Subaru dealer is one of just 14 companies nationwide to receive the U.S Environmental Protection Agency 's Energy Star award.

Planet Subaru of Hanover landed the award, which is presented by the EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy, by taking energy efficiency measures that have resulted in an average saving of 125,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, $22,000 each year in energy bills, and a 220,000 lb. reduction in carbon dioxide production at its facility.

The only other New England company to be presented with an Energy Star award was Duncaster Inc., a nursing home operator in Bloomfield, Conn.

The EPA started the Energy Star program in 1992.
