Massachusetts residents are "deeply concerned" about the affordability of housing despite ongoing declines in prices, according to the 2009 UMass Donohue Institute/Citizens Housing and Planning Association Housing Poll.
According to poll results, 34.9 percent of respondents said they or a member of their immediate family were considering moving out of Massachusetts because of housing costs.
The concern over housing affordability is being driven by uncertainty surrounding employment and the job market, the poll results indicate.
According the results, 67.4 percent of respondents said they were concerned about jobs in their communities. Another 45.5 percent said housing costs make it difficult to make ends meet.
Nearly half of respondents, 48.4 percent said either they or a member of their immediate family were worried that they will lose their jobs within the next three months. About 12 percent said their homes were worth less than what they owe on their mortgages.
