Kendalle Burlin O'Connell, has been officially named The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council’s new CEO and president.

The group’s board of directors announced O’Connell’s appointment on Wednesday. O’Connell previously served as MassBio’s president and chief operating officer.

O'Connell replaces Joe Boncore, who announced in November he would step down as CEO before the end of the year. He resigned, according to a press release from November, to open a consulting practice. MassBio hired Boncore as CEO in September 2021.

O’Connell steps into her new role after working for MassBio for the previous 14 years.

Founded in 1985, MassBio is a nonprofit organization based in Cambridge, which advocates for growing the life sciences industry throughout the state. It serves more than 1,600 members in the industry in Massachusetts.
