Modified mouse contract for Caliper

Hopkinton-based Caliper Life Sciences Inc. has won a $7 million, 10-year contract to supply the National Institute of Environmental Health Services with genetically modified mice for research.

The mice will be supplied by Xenogen Biosciences, Caliper's in vivo drug discovery arm.

The genetically modified "mouse models" allow the NIEHS to conduct research aimed at identifying and potentially preventing hazardous environmental conditions and exposure in humans.

This is the second multi-year contract Caliper has held with the NIEHS. Caliper has produced more than 9,000 unique mouse and rat genetic modification models, according to the company.
