More Painful At Pumps: Gas Prices Soar

Recent increases in the price of crude oil helped gasoline prices in Massachusetts soar 14 cents a gallon this week, according to AAA Southern New England.

AAA’s Feb. 4 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.599 per gallon, 14 cents higher than a week ago. Prices locally are up 14 cents over the past month, but haven’t increased as quickly as they did this time last year. The current price is 7 cents above the national average for self-serve unleaded of $3.52. A year ago at this time, the average Massachusetts price was $3.49.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 30 cents, from a low of $3.49 to a high of $3.79.
