Movers & Shakers from the June 22, 2009 issue

The Worcester-based Protector Group Insurance Agency Inc. recently hired ADAM B. HAAS to work with underwriters at insurance carriers and offer technical assistance to sales and service staff. He previously worked at Willis HRH and has a degree from Connecticut College. Protector also hired GARY T. BARNA as an account executive in its commercial lines division. He moved to the insurance agency after working as a sales representative for Zurich and Prudential Insurance. In his new position, he will help generate new business for Protector.

Southborough fuel cell company Protonex Technology Corp. has hired DAVID A. IERARDI as vice president of operations. Ieradi previously held senior level positions at EMC’s security division, RSA, as well as at Telco Systems, Integral Access and Lucent Technologies.

The Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce recently chose Penta Communications CEO DEBORAH PENTA as its new chairman. Penta has been a member of the chamber since 1995 and has served on the executive committee of the board of directors for the past three years. She replaces former chairman Dave Bagdon, publisher of the Community Advocate.

AMEDEO E. BILOTTA, a former chairman of Leominster Credit Union’s board of directors has returned to the board as vice chairman. Bilotta has been a board member since 1995 and served as chairman for five years. The credit union also re-elected the rest of its board officers. GIULIO G. GRECO, a retired Leominster businessman, will remain as chairman, while RICHARD A. SHEPPARD, a former teacher with the Wachusett Regional School System and a Sterling selectman, will keep his role as treasurer. ROSEMARY BRACANI, a retired businesswoman, was re-elected assistant treasurer, and ANTHONY A. GASBARRO, principal of Glenwood Elementary School in Rutland, was re-elected clerk.

The University of Massachusetts Medical School has hired JAMES B. LEARY, who currently serves as chief of staff for Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray, as associate vice chancellor for community affairs. In his new position, Leary will promote the medical school’s relationships with community organizations, civic leaders and government representatives from the area.

MELISSA GLAVIN-GUILLOTTE has been named marketing and recruitment manager for Becker College’s Center for Accelerated and Professional Studies. She was previously a human resources consultant with Waste Management of New England.

Bank of America has promoted TOM MCGREGOR to senior client manager in its Worcester offices, making him the bank’s senior executive for Central Massachusetts commercial banking. McGregor has worked for the bank for 10 years, most recently serving as its product delivery officer for credit in the Central Massachusetts market. In his new position, he will manage bank relationships and develop new business with companies that have revenues between $20 million and $2 billion.

Fruitlands Museum in Harvard has hired KERRY CASTORANO as director of development and branding. Castorano previously worked as a development associate at another local tourist attraction, the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester. In her new position, she will focus on growing the museum with efforts including expanded fundraising work.

St. Mary’s Credit Union of Marlborough has hired DAVID W. BOYDEN as facilities manager. In his new position, Boyden will oversee facility maintenance and mechanical operations of the credit union’s retail branches, administrative facilities and real estate. Previously, Boyden was responsible for the operation and maintenance of 15 buildings overseen by Building Technology Engineers. He is a graduate of Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner and Bay State School of Technology in Canton.

The YMCA of Central Massachusetts has elected DAVID K. WOODBURY, president of Worcester commercial real estate manager Woodbury Co. Inc., as chairman of the board. Woodbury, who succeeds Robert E. Maynard of Grafton, will oversee the implementation of the Y’s “Vision 2012” strategic plan.

KEVIN A. GRAY has been named chief technology officer of Qteros Inc. of Marlborough. He has a bachelor’s degree from Duke University; a Ph.D. in chemistry from Texas Tech University; post-doctoral fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried Germany and the University of Pennsylvania. He previously worked for Verenium Corp. in San Diego, Calif.

Engineering firm Tighe & Bond has hired NATHANIEL C. NORTON as geographic information systems director, working from the company’s Worcester office. Norton has 14 years of experience in GIS. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America. Norton lives in Newburyport.
