Dancing, a buffet dinner and a mystery aboard a harbor cruise ship are not generally part of your average business event, but that's the point, according to Jeff Belisle, chairman of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce's Young Professional Network.
"We try to mix educational and social networking events," said Belisle, who is an agent with New York Life.
Belisle is helping organize the "Margarita's Mystery Cruise" out of Long Wharf in Boston from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.
"A lot of our members don't live in the Marlborough area. Many work here but live in Waltham, Boston, Cambridge and Worcester. It's a diverse group of people and we just wanted to do something fun and break away from the after work events," he said.
YPN is part of the Marlborough chamber, but network members don't have to join the chamber to attend events like the mystery cruise.
Ultimately, YPN wants to recruit members for the chamber, and hopes after people attend the group's events, they'll see the benefits of joining the chamber as well. The age range in the group is 21 to 40.
For $59 per person, those who go aboard can help solve the mystery of why a bartender has gone overboard. A prize given for solving the mystery.
Reservations are required and must be completed by Friday, June 19. Registration can be completed online at http://www.marlboroughchamber.org/registerfrm.php.
For more information, call the chamber at 508-485-7746, or e-mail to marlcham@marlboroughchamber.org.
