Nativity School of Worcester has received its second $3-million dollar gift in two years, this time, from an anonymous, long-term supporter of the private Jesuit middle school.

“Thanks to the incredible gift from a dedicated supporter of our community, we’ll be able to ensure that our students continue to receive a transformative education for years to come. This gift will help us further empower young men and women to reach their full potential and make a lasting, positive impact on the world,” Nativity President Tom McKenney said in a Wednesday press release.

In addition to the $3 million campaign gift, the donor conferred with Nativity Worcester to re-name the institution’s boys’ school as Chick Weiss Boys Division, in honor of Chick Weiss, co-founder and trustee of Nativity Worcester.

Apart from his work at the middle school, Weiss is recognized as an associate professor emeritus at the College of the Holy Cross after spending a 41-year tenure with the Worcester school as a psychology department faculty member and key administrator.

“I was moved to tears to learn that the Boys Division of Nativity School of Worcester will be named for me…While I have been singled out for this honor, I am well aware that there have been so many others who dedicated their efforts and generosity to starting and sustaining this place where miracles happen every day for our middle school boys and girls,” Weiss said in the release.

Nativity Worcester’s most recent donation and division naming comes after the school received a $3-million gift in 2023 from the J.D. Power family and the Power-founded nonprofit, Kenrose Kitchen Table Foundation.

The following year, after previously operating as a boys-only school since its inception, Nativity Worcester opened its first-ever girls division, unveiling the Julie Power Girls Division in honor of the late Julie Power. The division accepted 29 girls to its first student cohort in 2024.

Both gifts add to the 2,000 donors who have contributed to the Nativity Worcester’s $20-million fundraising campaign. Launched in 2023, the school’s Access & Impact: The Campaign for Nativity School of Worcester allows the middle school to provide tuition-free, private education to all students.
