New CEO To Helm Marlborough Biofuel Co.

Marlborough-based biofuels developer Qteros Inc. has replaced CEO William Frey with life sciences executive John McCarthy.

In a statement, the company said McCarthy was hired "to accelerate the company's technology and commercial initiatives."

McCarthy is a life sciences, chemical industry and pharmaceutical executive with extensive fundraising experience in the private and public markets. He worked previously at Cambridge-based chemical firm Microbia Inc. as CBO. He was also an executive at Verenium Corp. of Cambridge, which like Qteros, is developing cellulosic ethanol technology.

The Harvard Business School graduate has also held senior positions at several pharmaceutical firms and at Morgan Stanley.

Venture-backed Qteros did not elaborate on the reasons for Frey's departure.
