Photo Finish

State Rep. Vincent Pedone, D-Worcester, recently visited Plumley Village Health Services in Worcester and read to a group of young children as a way of emphasizing the importance of parents reading out loud to their children. Plumley Village Health Services is an active participant in Reach Out and Read, a national literacy program aimed at children that are at risk of entering school unprepared to learn. KidSplash, a recent fundraiser held at the CoCo Key Water Resort in Fitchburg, raised more than $13,000 for Diversified Home Services in Leominster. The funds will benefit the nonprofit agency's Healthy Families Program, which assists more than 200 families each year and aims to provide aid and services to young parents. Rollstone Bank & Trust of Fitchburg recently donated $1,500 to the Department of Children and Families (DCF), specifically its Children and Family Fund. The donation will help the DCF purchase clothing, toys, books, and other items for the children in its care. Worcester resident Jeffrey DeCell recently won a voucher good for a free course at Anna Maria College in Paxton thanks to a radio contest sponsored by WXLO of Worcester. DeCell's name was randomly selected from the pool of applicants. Spencer resident, Lisa Graves, was the second place finisher and received a new laptop computer courtesy of WXLO. At a recent series of youth basketball games, The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest in Marlborough recognized Marlborough Savings Bank for its $10,000 sponsorship of the clubs' 2008-2009 Youth Basketball League.
