Danielle Stair, an eighth grader at Ralph C. Mahar Regional School, accepts a proclamation from state Sen. Steven M. Brewer. She won a $500 savings bond as part of a statewide essay contest sponsored by the Massachusetts Credit Union League and the Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corp. The subject they were asked to write on was what they would do to make the country a better place to live in if they were elected president in 2008. Workers Credit Union in Fitchburg sponsored her entry.
Hyde Tool's Southbridge employees celebrated a major safety milestone recently reaching over 521 days with no lost time accidents. The previous record was 196 days.
The Junior League of Worcester presented three $1,000 scholarships to female students in the Worcester County area for demonstrating outstanding volunteer service during their high school years.
