Photo Finish

The Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce recently held its annual dinner and honored several local business leaders. The Workers' Credit Union, headquartered in Fitchburg, recently held its second-annual “Money Makes Cents” program at the C.T Douglas School in Acton. Shawn Linehan, vice president and branch manager for the credit union, taught the five-week program, which helped the sixth grade students develop a better understanding of money and how to manage it. The students are pictured just before taking a tour of the credit union.
The commissioners of the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor posthumously honored Worcester attorney John Spillane as the 2007 Chafee Heritage Award. Spillane, who was active in many civic, charitable and social causes, was also a member of the Worcester Canal District Task Force. Corridor Chair Ted Sanderson (third from left) and executive director Jan Reitsma (far right) congratulate Mrs. Rosemary Spillane and her sons, Michael, John and Joseph, who accepted the award on behalf of the late Mr. Spillane.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute recently held its 140th Commencement ceremony where 738 bachelor's degrees, 333 master's degrees, and 18 doctorates were awarded. Jeffrey R. Immelt, chairman and CEO of General Electric Co., delivers his keynote address in the photo. In addition to Immelt's address, he announced that GE has made a $100,000 donation to support the expansion and operation of WPI's Cape Town Project Center, which is run by the university's Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division.
Milford's local WMRC 1490 AM radio was honored by the International Broadcasters Idea Bank (IBIB) with the 2008 Cary Simpson Award for Community Service. The station's charitable efforts include raising more than $32,000 in one day last year as part of a WMRC/Milford Regional Medical Center Radiothon. Pictured are: Tom McAuliffe, owner of WMRC, right, and IBIB Vice President Bob Breck, left.
