A ceremonial groundbreaking will be held at the future site of Polar Park and new Worcester home of the Pawtucket Red Sox on July 11, according to an official notice from City Hall.

Executives from the team, construction managers Gilbane-Hunt and Skanska, along with architects DAIQ and local, state and federal officials, will be on hand at the event in the Canal District.

Official plans for the $101-million ballpark to anchor an overall $240-million mixed-use redevelopment of vacant manufacturing land have yet to be submitted or approved. In May, Chief Development Officer Michael Traynor told WBJ limited activities like soil work can begin, but actual construction likely won’t begin until the fall.

The park has to be built by April 2021 for the team, which has not yet revealed its official Worcester name.

The 10,000-seat stadium will be accompanied by a parking garage with up to 500 spaces, an office building in left field, a hotel, apartments, retail and restaurant space. Boston developer Denis Dowdle will build the non-baseball-related pieces.

The city will own the ballpark and pony up the majority of the $101 million via a bond, but the team will pay back about $36 million in up-front costs and annual rent over a 30-year lease.
