Life at the mall never looked so good
When it's finished next summer, there won't be anything else in town like the $170 million, 215-unit luxury condominium high-rise Nouvelle at Natick.
Oh, it's modern alright. And it's number seven on our list of the biggest developments in Central Massachusetts.
General Growth Properties, which owns the Nouvelle and the adjacent Natick Collection, calls the Nouvelle a "full service" residential building. When it's done, it'll have private access to the Natick Collection, a private club room with billiards and card tables, a multi-media screening studio, a wine bar, a piano lounge and a private dining room and catering kitchen.
The Nouvelle was designed by ADD Inc. of Cambridge and is being built by Dimeo Construction of Providence, R.I. Once complete, the Nouvelle will be managed by the Barkan Management Co. Inc. of Boston.
There are plans for a 1.2 acre private roof garden, and a 2,800-square-foot fitness center called Bosse Nouvelle. Residents get a complimentary membership to the Bosse sports club and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
If that's not enough, residents also get dry cleaning service, 24-hour doorman and security, bicycle storage and reserved indoor parking for themselves and guests.
The smallest units at Nouvelle will be 800 square feet. The largest will be more than 2,000 square feet. Pre-construction price estimates ranged from $425,000 to $1.65 million. Nouvelle is the first residential development undertaken by mall developer General Growth Properties, which is based in Chicago.
And those prices may not seem out of line with the attitude General Growth wants to bring to the development. After all, it did want to call the overhauled Natick Mall simply "Natick" before townsfolk balked at such ostentation, and the company settled on the Natick Collection.
