P&W Railroad CEO recovering after accident

The Providence and Worcester Railroad Company’s CEO and chairman is recovering after undergoing surgery, the company said Monday.

Robert Eder sustained a head injury as result of a fall while hiking, according to a release from the company. He underwent successful surgery to relieve an intracranial bleed and is expected to fully recover and return to work within several weeks.

Eder was president of the company from 1966 through 1980, according to the company's website. He has been chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO since 1980.

The Providence and Worcester Railroad Company, based in Worcester, is a regional freight railroad that operates in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York. In 2014, the company transported 35,196 carloads of freight.
