Raytheon's test of missile tracking system successful

DigitalArt

Defense contractor Raytheon announced a successful test of a missile tracking system at a military base in Hawaii.

The An/SPY-6(V) air and missile defense radar system searched for, detected and tracked all targets fired from launch and throughout the projectiles’ flights.

The test comes during a period of mounting tension between the United States and North Korea over the latter’s threats of nuclear war and nuclear tests, including one missile that was fired over Japan and into the Pacific Ocean.

Company and military officials said the system was designed to track ballistic and cruise missiles at the same time.

It was the company’s third time testing the system.

Raytheon, headquartered in Waltham, has locations in Marlborough, Northborough and throughout the Greater Boston and North Shore areas.
