The Worcester-based CPA firm of Shepherd & Goldstein recently hired Rebecca Adams as an account supervisor. Adams got her accountancy degree from Assumption College is Worcester, and her new job brings her back to the city after a stint in Rhode Island. In this Q&A she says the transition is going smoothly so far.

Start date at new job: Jan. 8

Q. How are you settling in at your new office?
A. The team at Shepherd & Goldstein has been very helpful in helping me get acclimated with the firm's technology systems, procedures, and clients.

Q. What's the biggest surprise you've had in starting the job?
A. Everything is pretty much as expected, no surprises yet!

Q. What challenges do you see in your new position?

A. The biggest challenge is getting familiar with the unique circumstances of each client engagement that I will be managing.

Q. How different is this job from your previous position?
A. Generally, the policies and procedures are the same. I am still learning about the client needs at my new firm.

Q. How close is this to what you imagined in high school you'd end up
doing?

A. I have always enjoyed helping other people learn; and that is what I am doing now. Public accounting is not just about the numbers. It is more about client service and problem solving.

Q. Where's the best place to get lunch near your new location?

A. The Sole Proprietor, if you enjoy seafood.

Q. What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
A. Similar to what I am doing know but perhaps develop a specific area of expertise rather than acting as a general practitioner.
