Report: Educational, healthcare non-profit institutions have best reputations

A recent survey released by Morrissey & Company of Boston shows that non-profit institutions in higher education and healthcare rank highest among Massachusetts organizations for overall reputation, but the Dunkin' Donuts chain finished with a surprisingly high ranking.

The survey results, which are calculated by asking 200 area business leaders to rate 74 Boston area businesses, put Dunkin' Donuts in second place between Brigham & Women's Hospital and Children's Hospital.  The factors deciding the rankings include the company's reputation, products and services, place to work, degree of social responsibility, ethics and corporate governance, and financial stability.

Harvard University has held top honors for each of the survey's past three years, but labor challenges and discontent surrounding former president Lawrence Summers were likely contributors to the dethroning of the institution.  In this year's survey, Harvard ranked seventh.

"Reputation is about more than advertising and getting people's attention," said Peter Morrissey, Morrissey & Company CEO and president.  "It is fundamentally about delivering what you promised, being a good neighbor, and being a good place to work."
